With new Federal guidelines becoming law in the upcoming years, auto makers, including Jeep, are facing even more regulations to make their vehicle more fuel efficient. Jeep continues to look hard at the issues, even though it has some time. The new Jeep Wrangler model, as far as the design, won't change till around the 2017 year. But now is the time for Jeep to decide what changes need to be made, and what attributes can stay to continue the look and history of the Jeep Wrangler platform. Fuel mileage will always be an issue with 4WD on any vehicle. It just doesn't lend itself to good fuel mileage savings in the long run. There's only so much you can do. Jeep has rumored to be looking at all kinds of ideas, from aluminum body parts to developing their own diesel motors. Even adding turbo charging, to try and get the mileage numbers up without sacrificing not just power, but the reputation of the Jeep Wrangler legacy. It's still too early to tell just yet what Jeep will do. Jeep has fueled some rumors, but has not released anything specific or as an official view.
