German Jeep shifter manufacturer, ZF, is issuing a recall for its 9HP nine-speed automatic transmission. The shifter in question has had a lot of complaints around it. But the recall is being put out as a result of the transmission possibly shifting into neutral without the driver's knowledge. Although the recall is only for FCA vehicles, it affects 505,000 automobiles across brands in America. Much like the recent shifter recall, which is related to ZF' 8HP eight speed automatic transmission, this has reports of injuries associated with the defect. That last recall, however, is associated with the hightly publicized and untimely death of actor Anton Yelchin. Considering that the recall is only being issued to FCA vehicles, it's a good chance that Jeep is doing its best to stay ahead of accumulating any more bad press around their shifter components. The solution to the defect is a software upgrade. cherokee-renegade-recall Vehicles that come with the 9HP transmission from ZF include:

  • Fiat 500X
  • Honda Pilots
  • Jeep Cherokee

  • Land Rover Discovery Sport
  • Range Rover Evoque
