It's been estimated by the FCA (Fiat Chrysler Group) that around 99,400+ Jeep Cherokees (in the U.S. and Mexico) have an issue with their power liftgate control modules, and some other related components, due to moisture. Jeep indicates they can install some kind of shield to help prevent the issue. This has prompted a recall by the FCG. Part of the issue is failure of the parts, but there have been instances of fires from the control modules themselves as well. If you include vehicles globally, the numbers could climb as high as 164,000 vehicles overall in need of repair or modification. Jeep Grand Cherokee
models built between 2014 and 2015 can be effected (if you have a power lift gate). You can inspect the cargo area yourself for moisture or leaks caused by the defect. Your best bet is to contact your local dealership to find out more about the recall and how it might effect you.
