Late last week pictures of the all new 2014 Jeep Cherokee
leaked to the public. The blogs and forums buzzed, most of the comments on the internet were negative. The word "ugly" and “eww” were used a lot. Oddly, there's was no mention of the Cherokee on Jeep’s official Facebook page. Chrysler however did comment on its Twitter. Chrysler seemed to have the underlining tone to not judge a book by its cover. The car is radical; it's modern, and most of all its different. Overall what were we expecting, a retro XJ? Ralph Gilles (The Head of SRT) says it’s a “Paradigm shift for Chrysler“. It seems Chrysler was ready for the backslash, but it honestly seems like a flop to most Jeepers already. Ralph also hinted that the looks of the 2014 Cherokee will not change. Even with the storm it created online.
Personally I’d like to point out some Jeep history. Back in 1987 Jeep introduced the Jeep Wrangler YJ. It was harshly criticized for being different because the front headlights were simply designed squared and not rounded like most traditional Jeeps. Eventually years later, Jeep returned to rounded headlights. Hopefully the 2014 Jeep Cherokee can make its way back to its traditional roots (exterior wise). We'll keep our finger cross.
