Off-roading is thrilling but dirty business. When the adventure means traversing through water, it also means the potential for your engine to hydrolock. Outfitting your ride with a River Raider helps keep that worry at bay.

What Is River Raider?

River Raider snorkel systems came about like many other off-road parts. The founder, Kenny Hauk, soon became passionate about outfitting his Jeep Wrangler with off-roading parts. At the time, he quickly found that many weren’t made with the quality needed for rugged adventures. Instead of settling, he started to make his own. That passion led to the creation of an innovative snorkel intake system made with cast aluminum that was unlike anything else on the market. More than 15 years later, River Raider continues to be one of the best-selling snorkel systems on the market.

The Benefits of a River Raider

For a combustion engine to work, it needs the right balance of air and fuel. If water or dirt and debris get into the mix, it creates the potential for contaminants to get into the engine. Along with making the engine less efficient, it may mean an engine that stalls out. River Raider snorkel systems are designed to prevent water from entering the engine. They also work to ensure that cooler, cleaner air is entering the engine in dry conditions, which results in your engine lasting longer.

When To Use a River Raider

Outfitting your ride does require extra installation. They are installed on the air intake to create a tight seal against water from entering. The attached pipe runs up through the hood and is secured on the passenger side. Since it is situated higher, it works to minimize water getting sucked in. For off-roaders who enjoy navigating through streams and sandy, low rivers, a snorkel is worth the investment. Having a snorkel is also beneficial for people who live in areas with a lot of rain. Even though the water is coming from above, it protects the air box by channeling the water through the snorkel to be released away from the engine. If your ride is outfitted with a snorkel, it also helps to keep dirt and debris from causing damage.
