Consumers get a lot of stuff from China, but it's nice to know we can build some great American vehicles over there for a change. Currently, Jeep has rolled the first Cherokee off the assembly line for eager Chinese Customers to enjoy. The 786 million dollar manufacturing plant in Changsha is one of the newest and most technologically advanced of it's kind in the world.
Jeep Expands into China
While it's not a total surprise selling Jeeps in China, it's a welcome one. Fiat-Chrysler has been steadily expanding it's market worldwide, and the Jeep brand seems to be the flagship that everyone wants to see, and get to know. Once they cover all their planned expansions, in as many as six countries, Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles expects to produce nearly 1.9 million more Jeeps by around 2018. That's quite an impressive goal. Getting up to pace in China will allow for far more sales and distribution of the brand.
Chinese Market for Jeeps
The China market is just the start of the new chapter for sales. Eventually FCA will be making Jeep Renegades as well, when all the plants are up and running. At this time, the Chinese market for new vehicles is the largest, outside the U.S. Jeep actually made products once before in China, around 1985, but stopped the plants around 2009 or so. The current Jeep 2015 Cherokees have a 2.4L engine, but a 2.0L might possibly be available at a later time. Now that Jeep has become a such a popular worldwide brand, everyone wants to get in on these great vehicles. The FCA needs to make sure that everyone who can dream about owning a Jeep has access to buy one some day. Let's hope the sales continue. You won't be able to get a Chinese made Cherokee here in the U.S though...or anywhere else. They will only be sold in China according to the FCA.
