There have been a lot of Jeep headlines around the net recently. From dealing with recalls for faulty gear shifters to preparing for their new vehicle launch, Jeep is all over the place. But this isn't necessarily new to one of the oldest and most popular brands in the world. Jeep headlines have been prevalent this week mainly because of a recent tragedy. Many have been quick to place blame, and Jeep has been quick to roll out recalls to rectify what may have contributed to it. Aside from putting out fires, it's business as usual as Jeep participates in festivals, dodges rhinos, and much more.

Jeep Owners Sue Fiat Chrysler Over Defect Suspected in 'Star Trek' Actor's Death
In response to Anton Yelchin's sudden passing, Jeep Grand Cherokee owners are suing FCA over the defect that is implicated in the young actor's demise. The suit is claiming that the company failed to fix the shifter design defect in question. While the shifter issue has only just gotten national attention, it's been on our radar for a while now. Over 100 incidents have related to the rolling Jeeps have been documented. Car and Driver reports that the Grand Cherokees possibly affected by the shifter problem will get new software that will prevent Grand Cherokees from rolling away, even if they aren't properly in park. The software will keep the Jeep from rolling when the driver's door is opened. With the NHTSA reporting 121 crashes and 41 injuries as a result of the issue, this couldn't have come at a better time. Except for, you know, before any of this happening.
Toledo Jeep Fest looking for More Vehicles for Event
Toledo's first Jeep event ever is happening August 13, 2016. The home of the Jeep, where thousands upon thousands of Jeeps are produced annually, is having a Jeep Fest for the ages. The problem is: there aren't enough registrants! There are currently around 300 confirmed registrants slated to join in the festivities. The city has done its part with plans for a Jeep parade and classical Jeep exhibits with a full lineup of bands, food, tinkertape, and vendors. All they need is dedicated registrants and bodies there to enjoy the party. Is that too much to ask? So if you're in Toledo, OH or the surrounding area, register at cvent.com/d/lfqf6m. There’s a $15 fee to participate in the car show and parade. You'll probably be kicking yourself if you don't attend this historical event. Detroit News relays that Mike Manley was pinned down briefly to answer a few questions regarding the new lineup of vehicles. Expect the replacement for the Jeep Compass and Jeep Patriot (Compatriot) to happen in September at the Pernambuco Jeep plant in Brazil. It'll make its debut at the Las Angeles Auto Show in November. The real name of the new Jeep has been determined, but Manley is keeping it under wraps. The Wrangler JL will be unveiled early next year. The Toledo plant is being retooled to produce it and Manley says everything is on schedule. The Wrangler pickup, which everyone is waiting for, is coming in 2018. Expect the new JL to have better fuel economy and less tonnage. Lastly, Jeep is looking to produce a Jeep that's even smaller than the Renegade. Not sure how popular this will be with Wrangler lovers, but it's quite possible that the world will receive it really well. Not sure why these guys at Kruger National Park in South Africa decided to let the rhino charge at them without taking any action. I guess the photos meant more to them than the Jeep they were sitting in. It's a short clip but it's intense.
