This isn't the first time Jeep makes history. After "winning the war" Jeep entwined itself with American history, and has since garnered a loyal following supported by classic models and rugged ability.

Japan Declares Jeep "Green"

Today, Jeep makes history for something other than its service in our military - it's been declared green. That's right, Jeep is now the first American Made U.S. brand vehicle to qualify for Japan's green-car tax incentive. The incentive gives Japanese Jeep consumers a tax break of 58,000 yen (about $530) when they buy Jeep's 2016 Cherokee Trailhawk. The Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk  meets emissions and fuel efficiency standards, making it the first American made vehicle to even come close to appealing to a Japanese audience. 2016-jeep-cherokee-trailhawk
Here are a few impressive stats from the original article from the Daily Herald:

"Chrysler Japan spokesman Akira Suzuki says 7,510 Jeep vehicles - 726 of them Cherokee models - were sold in Japan last year.

The Jeep Cherokee was listed among the 10 best cars in the 2014-2015 Japan Car of the Year Award, the first time an American vehicle made it to that list, generally dominated by the Japanese."

Japan is home to Toyota, the world's #1 automaker, as well as Honda and Nissan. Jeep has finally "elbowed" its way into a segment where smaller engines and fuel economy are the main buying points. And while most Japanese made cars are fuel-efficient, few of them contain the power and prowess of a 4x4 Jeep. In Japanese tests, the Toledo, OH produced Trailhawk got 24 miles per gallon and received a 4 star emissions rating. Congratulations once again, to Jeep. What's your take on the history-making Cherokee?
