Jeep Moving Fast, Recalling Rolling Jeeps

Days after the tragic death of actor Anton Yelchin, Jeep is rapidly rolling out a recall to more than a million Jeep and Chrysler vehicles worldwide. Though it has not been determined whether the Jeep shifter issue is responsible for the incident, Yelchin's Jeep was on a voluntary recall. The sudden passing of such a notable figure in the public eye has brought much attention to the issue of Jeep's confusing shifter issues, and seems to have propelled the company to take action. The first Jeeps to get the recall include '14-'15 Jeep Grand Cherokees 3.6 liter V6s or 5.7 liter V8s. Other vehicles getting the first wave of recalls include:
  • '12-'13 Chrysler 300
  • '12-'13 Dodge Chargers
  • Jeep Grand Cherokee (3.0 liter V6s & 6.4 liter V8s)
More recalls for other year models will be rolled out in the coming months. Across the globe FCA is recalling approximately 50,000 vehicles in Australia. All of which may be affected by the shifter issues that cause Jeeps to roll when believed to be in park.  There have been no reports of Jeeps rolling away in Australia, but it's good to take the preemptive measure in the midst of consumers' growing safety concerns. In US and Australia recalls, measures have been taking to automatically prevent the vehicle from moving, even when the vehicle has not been actually placed into park. Stay tuned for more Jeep updates and news.
