And if there’s no chance for adventure, then are you really a Jeep owner? To keep your Renegade BU performing at its peak, its spark plugs have to be in good working order. This means Jeep owners should perform regular checks on their vehicle’s spark plugs and be prepared to have them replaced when necessary.

The quality of your Jeep’s spark plugs is equal to your engine’s performance. Faulty or old spark plugs can lead to misfires and other problems, causing reduced gas mileage due to sub-optimal engine power. Continue to delay service on your spark plugs, and soon enough you’ll be towing your Renegade BU to the mechanic. In general, it is recommended that spark plugs be replaced after 30,000 miles. However, this recommended mileage number may be less or more depending on the original spark plug’s material. Because it is impossible to precisely predict when a spark plug needs replacing, they should be checked any time your Jeep is serviced.

All models of the Jeep Renegade BU take either of two types of spark plug: the MOPAR® Champion® or the NGK® Iridium spark plug. However, your Renegade BU’s engine size is important when it comes to spark plug specifications because it determines the gap size. A spark plug has side and center electrodes; the gap between these electrodes defines the temperature at which the spark plug fires. If the gap on the replacement spark plug is not the right size for the Renegade’s engine type, it will not fire correctly. The Renegade BU 1.4L engine requires a spark plug with a gap of 0.026 inches, or 0.65 millimeters. The 2.4L model takes a 0.047 inch gap (1.20mm). And finally, owners of the 1.6L E-Torque model need a spark plug with a gap of 0.039 inches, or 1.00 millimeters.
