The Exhaust manifold is typically made of cast iron or fabricated tubing, the headers, which are connected to the engine at the exhaust ports with flange connectors, are designed to collect exhaust gases from each cylinder. These gases are then funneled into a common outlet, which connects to the next pipe or component in the exhaust system. Headers may have additional connections for emission control components.
The Exhaust pipe carries the collected gases and vapor from the exhaust manifold or header to another component further downstream in the exhaust system.
The "Y" pipe is an exhaust pipe, which connects both exhaust headers of a "V" engine to form a single exhaust system. It may also be used to split a single exhaust system into a dual exhaust system.
The "H" pipe consists of a right and left- hand exhaust pipe, attached to a header or catalytic converter and connected by a balance pipe to form a dual exhaust system component.
Balance pipes are used in many dual exhaust systems to merge sound pulses from left-hand and right-hand sources. This helps reduce harsh exhaust sounds, equalizes muffler and tail pipe life, and can aid in improving mid-range torque output of the engine.
A "Crossover" pipe connects one exhaust header to the other, thus creating the start of a single exhaust system combining multiple exhaust outlets into one.
The Intermediate pipe connects the exhaust pipe with the muffler or the resonator, whichever is first in the system. Its purpose is to carry the gases to the muffler for silencing or to the resonator for further silencing. Not all automobiles have intermediate pipes. This component may also be referred to as an extension pipe or connecting pipe.
The Tail pipe completes the design task of an exhaust system by directing the exhaust gases out of the vehicle to a point where they cannot enter the passenger compartment. A split tail pipe may be called a front and a rear tail pipe. Generally, a tail pipe is greater than one foot in length. The tail pipe is the last "exhaust pipe" in the exhaust system. 
The tail spout serves the same purpose a the tail pipe except it is shorter in length, usually a foot or less. This component is most often found on vehicles with rear mounted mufflers.

Just like there are many kinds of Jeeps, there are several types of soft tops. It's not that one is the right or wrong type, or only one kind can be used. They are available in different forms because it depends on what you do with your Jeep and how you use it.
Some vehicles have luxury. Some have affordability. Jeeps Have community and a rich history built on practicality, ruggedness and creativity.
We continue to celebrate that history every year with the annual Yipao Willys Parades in Colombia. Necessity meets ingenuity and creates tradition: The Yipao Willys Festival’s roots dig deep, dating back to the post-World war II 1940s. Following the Second World War, the U.S. Army found itself with a surplus of military Jeeps and corresponding parts. Faced with the dilemma of what to do with them, the Army opted to sell off the extras to developing nations at a large discount. One of the popular vehicles that fell into that lot was the Jeep Willys.
The Colombian Ministry of Defense was among the nations that took advantage of the deal, but thereal story lies with the farmers of the Quindío region. Coffee beans grow in abundance in the Quindío mountains, but to transport beans, along with the area’s other agriculture, farmers needed to trekup and down mountain roads, many of which were curvy, narrow and unpaved. The farmers quickly found that the Willys Jeeps were the perfect solution to their struggle and they adopted them as the “Mechanical Mule” – or, as they call them, “mulitas mecánicas.” But the story doesn’t end there.
Beyond using the Willys Jeeps Simply to haul agriculture, the Colombians decided to put them to the test. They were used not only for hauling, coffee beans and agriculture, such as plantains, but for the possessions of entire households as families stacked all of their belongings onto a vehicle to move, building towers twice the height or more of the actual Jeep! And it worked!
Colombia’s dedication and love for Jeeps has grown strong ever since, and continues to grow today. While many of the original mountainous roads have been widened and paved over time, making the farmer’s commute an easier task, the Jeep original purpose has become folkloric in the nation and lives on through the annual Yipao parades. At the Yipao Willys parades today, you’re less likely to see overloaded Jeeps in the mountains, but every June, Jeep enthusiasts converge in Colombia to remember its pastime and celebrate the modern innovations with the Yipao Willys parades. Locals from all over the nation participate, loading (or rather, overloading) their Jeeps in the name of tradition.
A by-stander unaware of what he or she is viewing may be puzzled about the comically overloaded vehicles. But to locals and global Jeep enthusiasts, the event is as familiar as an annual holiday. Each participant loads up their Jeeps with agricultural products, livestock or household items, while including something important to Colombian culture. The owners are able to enter their Yipao into one of several contest categories:
Agricultural Products:
Yipaos in this category are loaded entirely with agricultural products, which could include produce and harvest, or other more out-of-the box items, like equipment or even livestock. As the most traditional category it honors the festival’s primary roots of loading the vehicles high with coffee.
House Moving:
In homage to the festival’s roots, entries in the house-moving category are piled high, as though to relocate from a residence. You’ll see everything from paintings to lamps, or even the living room sofa!

This Recon slice adds to the already challenging Rubicon edition format. It has HD cast Dana 44 axles front and rear. These have stronger tubes, with HD end forgings. According to reports from Jeep, the Recon uses shorter rock rails to accommodate the now 35-inch tires used by the Rubicon.
It has a crawl ratio of 73.1.1. With a six-speed transmission.
The Tru-Lok axles are Jeep’s part-time 4-wheel drive, which uses electronic locking, and goes through the Rock-Trac transfer case. The front and rear Dana 44s use a 4:1 ration. When combined with the gearing in the transmission, you can see how the Rubicon Recon can traverse most obstacles very quickly.
The 2017 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Recon has 32 inch BF Goodrich KM off-road tires on 17-inch rims. The rims are a low gloss Granite Crystal color (the rims themselves are made of aluminum). There’s also a Power Dome Hood, with blacked-out Rubicon decals on the both sides. (reports are that there are optional body color fender flares too).
The grille is a low gloss Black, with the Granite Crystal inserts. The front steel bumper is winch capable and has removable end caps for hard trailing. Red trail hooks are included front and rear on the new Jeep.
All these accents are designed to give the Jeep Rubicon Recon that bad boy look. Available in: Black, Bright White, Billet Silver, Firecracker Red, Granite Crystal, Rhino, and Gobi.
For you folks who trail all year ‘round, black leather heated seats are standard. They even have the Rubicon logo on them. This style follows over to the steering wheel, armrests, console lid, seatbelts, and netting pockets for storage.
There’s a dashboard plaque giving you the necessary information on your new axles, sway bar, transfer case, and other details. The Premium Sunrider soft top is standard (the hard top, in body color, is an option).
Great slush style mats have the Jeep logo on them. More standard items include the Jeep Connectivity Group, red accented axle locker and sway-bar disconnects, Satellite Radio with an eight-speaker system, and a Remote Starter.
This is the last year for the JK Wrangler body, but it is clear that Jeep will carry on the traditions of the Rubicon. Surely this Recon model will carry the JK out with an enormous bang for the year.

We are thinking the next Bronco might be small, or with a short wheelbase if they are trying to compare it directly to a Wrangler.
We are sure Ford wants to test their vehicle far from prying eyes. So they probably trailered the machine deep in the outback where not even a bush tracker would go.
If you are going to test your new vehicle’s capabilities, you have to test in against a Jeep (the number one off road vehicle on the planet). All we can say is that it must be serious business for Ford to go to such secrecy to test out in the open on real terrain situations.
Some sources say the Bronco is under development through its Victorian-based Asia-Pacific Product Development Center. That is where the next Ranger (and thus Bronco) ladder platform is being designed.
It is not likely a new Bronco will appear before 2020. However, whatever they are testing, it is going to be nearly impossible to beat a Jeep Wrangler.

The Renegade Altitude gets an aggressive blacked-out look. You can still order it in the available Jeep colors, but the 18-inch wheels have a gloss black finish, and the badges, grille rings, and taillights rings will be blacked out. (We think bright colors might look best)
Jeep pushed the dark theme even further; they designed the interior with black premium cloth seats and high gloss black finishes. There are metal diamond accents found elsewhere on the interior to tie in the whole design together.
From a mechanical standpoint, like many other Renegades, it is available with the 2.4L Tigershark engine, and a 9-speed transmission as well. However, a 1.4L MultiAir Turbo version will be offered with a six-speed transmission.
The Deserthawk Renegade is only available in specific colors, such as Alpine White, Anvil, Black or “Mojave Sand”, a color you can only get with the Deserthawk model.
Similar to the Altitude, you get 17-inch black painted wheels and a black interior, with leather seats (there are Light Frost accents to break up the black look and stitching). However, you also get special decals for the hood and rear body panels, some rock rails for off-roading, and the Trailer Tow Group.
Standard on the Deserthawk is the 2.4L Tigershark engine and nine speed. To put this rock rail to good use, it includes 20:1 crawl ratio, Selec-Terrain system, and 8.7 inches of ground clearance.
Jeep is always improving their products, and different versions give them a chance, and consumers, to put the vehicles to the test, on the road and off. However, who says you cannot look good while driving? Clearly, these two versions should sell well and offer even more to fans of the Renegades.

We like that the camouflage is a modern “digital” pattern used by the military. These patterns make it hard to discern an exact shape when being monitored with digital equipment.
But these graphics are more for the opposite effect. These graphics are to get this Jeep noticed in the neighborhood!
The Jeep Wrangler is also decked out with other accessories. Such as a custom grille, fairlead and 
While messaging the body, they did slip in some cues from the JK Wranglers. Specifically the hood scoop inserts, along with some headlight bezels and bumpers, not to mention the center console.
The custom steering wheel goes further with a Jeep 50th anniversary Moab Easter Jeep Safari logo, and the sport seats are right out of a Dodge Viper.
There are various other Jeep and Mopar parts added, as well as some aftermarket parts you might recognize, such as the Warn winch.
We like the way they combined old and new technology, as well as looks, to build a Jeep that any Jeep fan would want to drive.

The Jeep Revolution BFR3 has inflatable offroad designed tires and some good ground clearance, this allows the kart not just to navigate smooth roads, but get off in the weeds.
It also features a swing axle to make it more stable, and double ball bearings. The rear has mud flaps (ok, fender flares) over the rear wheels. The whole thing comes in at just over 100 pounds, so it is lightweight and easy to toss in a truck for camping or to take to a beach.
Now, being a Jeep, you know that that means, options and accessories! The Jeep Revolution is available in several colors (yep, including green). We like the small Jeep logo name between the doors, on the lower panel. There won’t be any mistake as to what kind of vehicle just pulled up next to you. Especially if this puppy was riding on 35’s, right?
Note the side hood latches. They are horizontal rather than vertical. That is unusual but seems to give the front sides of the hood an odd look. It appears the side windows may be removable (note the hand space along the bottom of them to grab), and that the top’s rear window will pivot up like a traditional Jeep Wrangler.

With different options (Summit, Overland, etc), the Grand Cherokee offers as much high-end aroma as you can afford. Luxury Nappa leather accents and quilted leather panels and seats. The townspeople are hoping the Festival wasn't a one-off deal. With all the preparation and event being a great success, it'd be a shame to not make this a yearly event. While it's too soon to tell whether this will be an annually occurring event, there were many attendees who would love to come back to be a part of the Jeep experience. So much of what Jeep is about is community and friendship. Any chance to get together with a few thousand of one's closest friends is always a welcome occasion.

We haven't seen the movie yet, but it looks like a fun movie. The 
The flames burned their way onto the interior dashboard. To go along with the dash flames, the seats sport black denim and orange leather trim. In terms of performance upgrades, the Hell's Revenge Jeep Renegade has a suspension lift, skid plate, and LED spotlights.
Maybe the best part about the Renegade is the 170 horsepower 2.0 liter Multijet II turbo diesel engine.

In the end the Wrangler sits triumphantly atop a desert mountain overlooking all it just conquered. I'm sure that's a familiar feeling for lots of you who've taken on any tough environment. We love our 
I suspect that Jeep will continue with the trend of releasing Special Edition Renegades in unison with cinematic releases of super hero and game adaptations. It seems to be a working formula at the moment.

The thing to remember is that when the HMMWVs came into service, they were an all around daily vehicle. They weren't intended much for combat, and protection for soldiers was light, or literally non-existant. It couldn't even withstand small arms fire.
Eventually, due to casualties of some brave men and women, the military had the HMMWVs updated with more armor, bulletproof glass, and an armored turret on top. Some of these first new armor kits became known as "Frag Kits". These made the aging vehicles much safer, but with the added weight, made the HMMWVs more heavy, slow, and difficult to control. Suddenly the writing was on the wall, and a replacement was going to be needed.
With IEDs (Improvised Explosive Devices) on the rise, the military started using more MRAP (Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected) vehicles to better protect soldiers. But that's a stop gap while direct replacements for the HMMWV are being built. The new vehicles are the 
I hope the soldiers give the higher ups plenty of feed back. I'm afraid the bean counters are going to win in the end though.
But it's interesting to see that the military is going back to using a small, light vehicle that's so similar to the original 1940s Jeep (though not necessarily better).

Passionate, for sure. But we tend to agree. It seems like so many of the things that make owning a Jeep fun is systematically being replaced by useless 4x4 technology. At least it feels like automakers are attempting to take the good stuff away from us. And yes we know it was only a concept. But still!
One commentator stated that the 300hp "Hurricane" won't be mass produced. That may make this turbo engine placed above the 6 cylinder Pentastar that has been paired with the Wrangler so masterfully.
Time will only tell what the Wrangler JL 4 cylinder turbo will bring to the table.

Once you have your tools ready, it's a matter of bolting up the various parts and brackets. The great thing is, no drilling is involved. When bolting on the brackets and hardware, you'll really appreciate all the engineering that went into this top.
It's quite amazing how it uses existing holes and notches, and that it can all be assembled by hand. No welding, no fabricating, no duct tape. You're just using various parts to assemble the sturdy frame, on which the rest of the top attaches too. Door surrounds are included so that your existing doors will seal flush and give you a good seal (new rubber seals are provided for the doors and the rear window).
The window section seems to be the most complicated of the assembly, only because it's a moving part. It's also important to have it properly aligned, and there are plenty of slotted holes and adjustments that can be made to get a good fit. With new seals (that Bestop includes), it's unlikely you'll have any issues over the years (it's recommended that you have a Jeep friend help you install the rear window. It's tempered glass, and you can only drop it once, so help is a good thing!).
Gas lift supports hold the window in the open position, so you don't have to prop it up or anything like that once installed.
By the time you get to the top arches and bows for support, you're almost about half way. Those will keep the top tight and help it retain it's shape for years to come. A few parts are attached to allow the Bestop Sunrider feature to work.
At it's heart, it's a soft top. But has the same features, and a few extra ones, that a normal hardtop will have. Except on a hard top, you don't get a Sunrider, and you won't be popping out the back windows or rear glass.
This isn't a step by step installation list here per se' (the PDF actually does that) and with the video, you'll see just about anyone can install the top. With a few Jeep buddies, we think you could probably do it in less than the four hours that Bestop mentions.
Either way, once you install a Bestop Trektop Pro, all your Jeep friends will want one too. Plan on helping them install theirs!

By the way, the nose / facia up front will be slightly different, and you'll be riding on 18 or 20 inch wheels.
Moving down the Jeep line one notch, the Cherokee has nearly identical features as the Grand Cherokee, but rides on 18-inch rims exclusively.
And just to keep you family all Jeep, and able to get a 75th anniversary Edition of their own, the Renegade will be getting the bronze and low gloss treatment as well. Also grille surrounds, roof rack, even tail light accents , and of course, special badges.
But the Jeep Patriot and Compass, which are usually left out in the cold, get to participate. Both will get the 75th Anniversary treatment with low gloss accents, power sunroof, and a few other great features.
These new Jeeps are expected to start hitting the dealers around March. That's just enough time for you to decide which model, and which color you want to pick your Jeep up in.

If you're rocking a soft top on your Jeep, chances are you will hear some soft top noise at highway speeds. It might be just some minor flapping, or it could grow to sound like a 747 is riding in your back seat. Here's how to reduce it.

While the production Jeep won't be exactly like the concept, it will still be far from a stock, everyday Wrangler. Jeep plans to include some Amaretto Brown Katzkin leather seats with silver accented stitching, along with serialized Red Rock grab handles.
Some of the stand out visual changes will include a grille painted the body color, a Red Rock hood decal, a Rock-Trac transfer case, and a power-dome vented hood. No one will mistake this Jeep for a stocker at the mall.

In the world of today, it's not likely you would see a Jeep being put to work. Oh sure, they're used for emergency vehicles, such as fire fighting, or offroad rescue duties. Many government agencies use them from police to your local forestry park jobs.
But in the past, Jeeps were used for a variety of different jobs. Fresh out of WWII, these small vehicles (officially now known as 
The lifts ran from a hydraulic pump, and combined with a PTO, allowed a farmer to plow small fields and do work where a tractor might not be available, or affordable.
Monroe was heavy into farm equipment back then, so it was a natural business decision for them. But not so much for Jeep, as farm CJ sales were never quite up to what Willys wanted.
The one positive attribute for the Jeep was that you could swap out different equipment. So you could be plowing one day, then swap that implement for a disc plow, bush & bog harrow, or a farm mower the next.
But farming wasn't the only related field where hard work was expected. In the industrial or construction areas, there were even more tools and implements to make a Jeep a valuable part of the job.

While you may be rockin' the 32 inch tires today, it's a big leap to go bigger. Sure it looks cool, but is it practical for your driving style and driving needs?
Let's look at some aspects of going to larger tires, and what's involved. With the right preparation and planning, it might be easier than you think.
Using a larger than stock tire puts a lot of stress on the drive train parts. It takes more power and torque to rotate that larger tire. That means, the drive train, U-joints, drive shafts and axles, take the brunt of that force.
You need to makes sure those parts have been upgraded to handle the extra load.
Stronger differential Lockers, if you don't already have some installed, are a good investment. They help to spread that force more evenly and get all four tires working together to give you more grip. We carry lockers from some of the best manufacturers in the world, including Spartan, ARB, Dana, and Yukon.
If you want to replace the axles with stronger parts end to end, look into the

This is another "let's get unstuck" necessity, especially if you trail alone. Or your trailing buddies aren't the best offroad drivers and get stuck ... A LOT. And they're depending on your Jeep to pull them out.

There are some things that just can't be fully explained, like the mysteries of the universe, or where the name "JEEP" actually comes from. Sure, there are stories, articles, rumors. With many an hour spent sitting around campsites and fishing trips, debating on how the name came about.
If you're new to Jeeps, meaning, you just picked up that 
Is my Jeep pickup here yet? What's the delay? How many of you can't wait till 2018? That's when Fiat-Chrysler-Jeep says they may be gracing us with a pickup truck version Jeep. For real.
At least, that's what Jeep has announced.
While Jeep has a very long history, with ups and downs in the automotive industry, it will be a challenge to bring that legacy back to a Jeep truck. A real truck. An actual pickup truck with a full size bed.
No one quite knows what they will be till some designs have been released from Chrysler-Jeep. Drawings, photos, something to go on. So we still have a few years to guess. It could look like almost anything.
There are so many people out there comparing what a new Jeep truck might have to live up to as far as heritage and we wanted to take a stab at it. Jeep has made many different kinds of "trucks" than their traditional offroad CJ's and Wrangler models. A few were successful, some, well, not so much.
But all have a sweet spot to Jeepers for many different reasons.
Let's look at the contenders:
Willys-Overland Jeep Truck -
You still see these around now and then, but most have disappeared in a farmers field somewhere or become a rust heap in the woods. The few that have been found have been restored, hot rodded, lifted, and still stand the test of time. The trucks production ran from around 1947 to 1965, and they are also knows an "Jeepsters".
These trucks had some keen options, such as power takeoff, and a "Dump-O-Matic" hydraulic hoist. But I wouldn't hold your breath for those options on a 2018 Jeep Pickup Truck.
Jeep CJ8 Scrambler -
The CJ8 Scrambler was sort of a hybrid. Still a CJ, but with a small "pickup" style bed. It even had a "tailgate", so it was very close to being an actual "pickup". For some reason they didn't sell that well initially, so they're quite rare today. But more popular than ever.
From the windshield forward, they were pretty much like a copy of the CJ7. Chances are, the 2018 Jeep Pickup Truck will be a similar idea. It will most likely use many parts, if not the actual design, of a 2018 Wrangler (whatever that ends up being, no one knows for sure yet).
Will they call it a pickup truck? Or maybe they can bring back the Scrambler name and include the graphics package as well? Hey, we can dream.
Jeep J-Series Pickup Trucks -
This was a solid Jeep truck (also known as the "Gladiator", and later on, the "Honcho"), and it was true to the genre. It did share parts with the SJ-Wagneer and Cherokees, but except for that, it was a tried and true pickup truck.
As we've mentioned before, when Jeep was purchased by Chrysler, they didn't want a vehicle to compete with their Dodge trucks, so they killed the J-series. C'est la vie.
(Famous J-series? The yellow truck in the movie "Twister". Also, Earl's 4WD Jeep pickup in the movie "Tremors". ..."Easy on the clutch, you're gonna break an axle!"...)
Will the next Jeep pickup in 2018 be like a J-series? Not likely. Car companies of today don't like to step out of the box. Or take chances. They also like to have multiple vehicles share parts and platforms, which allows them to have a better bottom line when it comes to profits. It's not really possible a new Jeep pickup will stand on it's own.
Jeep Commanche -
These are almost considered the red-headed step child of Jeep trucks. They borrowed some parts from the XJ Cherokee, including the "Uniframe" nightmare XJ owners are well aware of.
These were a midsize / compact size truck, more comparable to a Ford Ranger or a Chevy S10. But they came around at the wrong time, with Chrysler already making Dodge fullsize trucks, and their smaller Dakotas. The Commanche had low sales, so it ended up on the cutting block. (Though they are very popular to find and own today.)
The new 2018 Jeep Pickup truck will probably be whatever size a Jeep Wrangler is, though maybe with a longer wheelbase (than the unlimited), so it's hard to say how it will be classified: a compact pickup, or a fullsize version.
We still have some waiting to do till we find out.

"Backspacing" and "Offset" are two words that probably don't come up in a casual conversation, unless you're a Jeep or 4X4 fan. These two relate to specs when choosing a wheel and / or tire for your vehicle. They are more of a type of measurement than anything else. But they're important to getting the right wheel, and in the end, the right tires, to get you where you want to go and set your Jeep up for the style driving you have in mind.
Let's take a look at these terms and their use:
The first term we'll start with is: BACKSPACE
The measurement determines how far inboard the hub (where the holes are for bolting on the wheel) are from the outside end of the wheel. For instance, if you lay a flat yard stick or steel ruler across the edge of the wheel, you can measure from that to the hub to determine the backspace. NOTE: you do this on the BACK of the wheel, the part of the wheel facing the vehicle.
The reason this is important is you want to place the tire (mounted on the wheel) at a certain distance away from the end of the axle. Why? You don't want the edge of the tire to hit or rub up against any suspension parts on the back side. But you also want to help make sure it doesn't touch any of the body, exhaust, or any other number of parts on a Jeep. You are also making sure the wheel will clear the caliper or brake drums, or any other related brakes or parts. If the rotor and caliper stick out 4-inches, you need to make sure the inside of the wheel spacing will accommodate that.
By changing your backspace on the wheels you use, you can move the tire itself in and out of the wheel wheel area as needed.
The width of a rim is measured from the two sides, the two lips outside of where the tire in mounted in the middle. A rim might be 10 inches wide let's say. You can have two 10 inch wheels, one with a backspacing of 2 inches, and one with 3 inches. Even though the wheel itself is the same width, the offset will determine how far the wheel (and tire) will extend outside from the end of the axle. Meaning, the 3 inches of backspacing will allow the tire to be closer inboard (towards the vehicle). (the Offset can effect this measurement - see more below).

We love a good Jeep rumor, but this one just might have some teeth to it. Jeep continues to dig deep into the Dodge engineering well and pull out some serious horsepower for the go fast gear heads who have to have the best of both worlds: an SUV, but with power to get to the office a hell of a lot faster.
Dodge has been progressing forward with their 6.2L 
It's been estimated by the FCA (Fiat Chrysler Group) that around 99,400+ Jeep Cherokees (in the U.S. and Mexico) have an issue with their power liftgate control modules, and some other related components, due to moisture.
Jeep indicates they can install some kind of shield to help prevent the issue.
This has prompted a recall by the FCG. Part of the issue is failure of the parts, but there have been instances of fires from the control modules themselves as well.
If you include vehicles globally, the numbers could climb as high as 164,000 vehicles overall in need of repair or modification.
The Jeep Wrangler is one of the last few "convertibles" left in the U.S. market. But it's also a very popular vehicle. It truly is for those of us who want to enjoy the outdoors and fresh air outside the city. Far away from the city. Like, "Let's get lost" in the mountains and not go back.
With a jeep, you can have a 
Roll Bar Storage Bag - These bags are quick to mount on your roll bar if you have the top off and you're hitting the trails. They're larger and more spacious than other low quality brands, plus they're weatherproof. 
With Spring on the horizon, and Summer not long behind, it will soon be time to check that your Jeep's cooling systems is working and ready for the coming hot days ahead. Suddenly, any parts that might be in question can fail or burst, or simply give out, and the next thing you know, you've over heated your Jeep and maybe damaged the engine and other components.
Hoses -There are two basic hoses. These traditionally run from the radiator to the engine. There is one on top, which flows the water from the engine into the radiator for cooling. The bottom hose flows the water from the radiator into the engine (normally the water pump is actually pulling, or pumping the water from the radiator with force). These hoses are connected to the radiator and to the engine by clamps. These clamps should be inspected for any issues. You're also looking around the clamp, and around where the hose meets the inlet and outlet for any discoloration from water rust or coolant / antifreeze that might be seeping out. Just about every vehicle will also have heater hoses. They have a thinner diameter, and run from the engine to the firewall. These can be made up of multiple hoses and connections, and on newer vehicles, will have specific molded shapes. Check all the connections and look for damaged or seeping hoses. Check where they meet the firewall as well. These heater hoses will connect to the heater core, which uses the hot water to heat your air when it blows inside your interior. Most of the time the heater core is inside the firewall, in the interior, under the dash. It would be difficult to really inspect that, but if you have any liquid coming from that area into your interior, a heater core could be the problem.
Fan Clutch - If you have a mechanical fan on the front of your engine, which draws the air through your radiator, you probably have a mechanical clutch as well. The clutch part allows the fan to spin at different speeds, meaning, the fan will rotate at the same speed as the engine, while at times it may turn slower, in a free wheeling(slipping) kind of rotation. There are reasons for this, including better gas mileage and /or robbing less horsepower from the engine. Of course, the main reason is so the fan can adjust to conditions to better cool the radiator when needed. There are two kinds of basic fan clutches. A NON-thermal fan clutch, which is more mechanical, and adapts with simple rpm. The other is a THERMAL: clutch which uses temperature sensing spring. Depending on the temps, the spring expands and contracts, effecting how much the clutch will slip, and cool the engine properly. Fan clutches go bad over time, like any other kind of clutch. This can cause overheating problems, and even effect your air conditioning and other systems. With the engine off, if you try to turn the fan by hand, and it's to stiff, the clutch may be binding or seizing. If the fan spends to freely, with next to no resistance, then it may be worn out and is slipping to much. Make sure it is bolted and mounted tightly also, and not cocked or bent. Note that some newer vehicles use an ELECTRONIC fan clutch, and those work based off the computer controls on the vehicle. Those will require more diagnosing procedures.
Thermostat - The thermostat is mechanical, and regulates the flow of water through the cooling system and your engine. When your engine is cold, it's closed. This allows the water to circulate only in the engine so that it will warm up, and thus, warm up your engine. Once a certain temperature is reached, the thermostat will open, allowing the water to flow from the engine into the radiator, so the engine will operate at the right temperature from then on. While the thermostat isn't visible to check, it's usually contained in some kind of housing. So you can check the housing and see if there is any seepage or discoloration around it from coolant / antifreeze. There is usually a gasket or rubber o-ring to seal the housing to the engine, and those can go bad over time. That's why you want to inspect it from time to time. In the old days, many people would take a thermostat out and not use one. But on newer vehicles, especially with computer controls, you don't want to do that. This can cause the engine not to run at it's optimum temperature for the computer to calculate the best air / fuel mixture, which is what gives you the best gas mileage. Some people run a different thermostat temperature, meaning, they go from a stock 180 degree thermostat to a 160 degree one, for a cooler temperature. Again, this can throw off the computers calibrations, so it's not really a good idea on modern vehicles. In most cases, you can tell if a thermostat is at least opening. When you start you vehicle cold, take the radiator cap off. Watch the water in the neck. After a few minutes, the thermostat will open, and you will see the water now moving and flowing in the radiator.
Water Pump -
On a vehicle with a heater, there is a valve that redirects water from the cooling system and feeds it to the heater core (the image above is a generic valve). This allows hot water to run through the heater core, and heats up the air before it blows inside your vehicle. By using the dash controls, you're opening and closing this valve. On older vehicles this was done manually, but modern vehicles many times do this electronically. Sometimes these can get stuck, or fail to operate properly over time. So a quick inspection is about all you can do, and make sure the heat is working inside your vehicle. Check the hoses running to the valve and look for leaks or seepage. Some valves may use vacuum to operate some of their features, so you can check that hose as well for cracks or degradation, things that might cause a vacuum leak and cause it not to operate correctly..
It doesn't matter what kind of Jeep you have, or what year your Jeep is, it will need regular maintenance to keep it running. The most important would normally be changing your oil and filter. Since the oil lubricates your engine inside, and the engine is the heart of your Jeep, you want to take care of it as best you can. Changing your oil regularly is an investment over time, to help prevent, or slow down, internal wear, and keep all those fast moving parts in harmony.
So what are some of the basics about oil and changing it?
Let's start with the simple thing first, the Jeep oil filter.

So what's this mean for you?

Pretty much, it will be business as usual. We will be slowly expanding the truck parts selection, and eventually it will probably take on a life of it's own. But it will happen, and we want YOU to be a part of it.
Volumes could be written on the Jeep death wobble. Whole libraries. With fancy graphs, charts, and some engineering jargon just to make it look good. Maybe a few jokes and cartoons, and in the end, you'll have the same thing as what you started with: a big question mark floating over your head. What the $#$@# is causing this?
First, let's go back to the beginning ...
When you buy a new Jeep, it's unlikely it had a death wobble right off the show room floor. So it's not a problem that is inherit to the vehicle per se'. Lots of engineers with various degrees and knowledge designed the vehicle to function a certain way, ie. without a death wobble. The suspension geometry has all been tested, analyzed, picked though, calculated, and graphed. It all functions together in a unified way, to make sure that you won't be getting a death wobble package with your new Jeep. It's just not an option.
So your Jeep didn't have one when it was new. Where did it come from?
Most likely, .... YOU!
Ok, so now that we've established that fact, let's look deeper into this. Guess what? Everyone mods up their Jeep at one time or another, so it's no big deal. A death wobble is a possible outcome, but not in every case. So now that you've stood on the edge of death at 30-40 mph, and you've used every possible word a sailor might blush at, where do you go from here?
Ladder frames are simple to design, build, and are more durable. When you hear people saying the older cars were "tougher and more durable", that's probably because even a car like a '57 Chevy was built on a ladder frame, and the term "built like a truck" was essentially true.
The term 'Ladder frame" describes a type of chassis that is commonly two side pieces (called 'rails", like train tracks), with interconnecting frame pieces, bolted (or welded) across ways, tying the two rails together. When you look at the finished frame, it looks like a ladder.
Ladder frames are not used in cars much anymore, but full size trucks still use them. Again, because they are stronger for hauling, towing, and payload use. Ladder frames are more versatile too on a truck, since they can accommodate variations on the body that bolts to them.
YJs were only available as 2-Door models, as were all previous Jeeps. The YJ's were produced from 1987-1995. This was the last Jeep with leaf springs front and rear, so to some, it is also considered the last "real Jeep".
YJ owners usually defend their choice of Jeep, and in some sense, they dare to be different. No one has to guess what kind of Jeep it is, because with the square headlights, everyone knows it's a YJ. The Jeep YJ's have a similar grille to the later TJ, they have a bend molded into the, but the bend is almost exactly halfway up.
The end result is to identify your vehicle to you can get parts quickly and easily. Most Jeep owners are big fans of their vehicle, and usually know the model. But if you're new to the Jeep family, take the time to get to know what kind of Jeep you have. What size is the engine? What axles do you have? Transmission? You'll be glad you did. Hook up with other Jeep fans, they will be glad to help you.

Hybrid is a word that gets thrown around a lot lately. It's a cup half full or half empty. If you have a vehicle that's gas, then that's one way, and the other side of the coin is a vehicle that's all electric. But to combine the two? What is Jeep thinking about?

Looking for a great accessory for your Jeep? 
For as long as there have been cars and trucks, around 100 years, this is a question that will never go away. Right Hand vs. Left Hand, Driver Side vs. Passenger Side. If you're a gear head or you buy a lot of truck and auto parts, then you probably have this question nailed already. But for newcomers, and the general person who might just be jumping in into the world of fixing their own vehicle and ordering parts, let's go over this and bring you up to speed to help you get the right part every time.
The basics are the same no matter where you live or drive on the planet. No matter where you're at, your left hand is your left, and your right hand is always your right. In the USA? Your left hand is your left hand. Living Down Under in Australia? Your Left Hand is still your Left Hand. Doing a tour of duty on the ISS in orbit? Yep, your Left Hand is still your left hand. Now you're getting it!
Most of the time, everybody has that pretty much figured out. But when it comes to auto parts, and your vehicle, there's a relationship between the two. That's because many parts will only fit on the left, or only on the right. Just like your favorite winter gloves, they will only fit one hand or the other. Many parts are the same, one side or the other, but rarely both sides.
To indicate WHERE they fit, they are usually referred to as "left hand side" or "right hand side". 
Another year passes by for Jeep, one of many years since the concept of the vehicle around 1939, and the later worldwide brand name. That's a lot of experience under it's belt. Times have been tough for Jeep now and then, from AMC to Chrysler, to Daimler Benz until, ultimately, FIAT. Making the Jeep brand nothing more than carry along baggage for other car brands who may or may not be able to pull their own weight. Yet the Jeep vehicle carries on, specifically the Wrangler, to carry the torch of it's predecessors, and link back to it's heritage. But how will it fare in the ongoing 21st century?
Let's take a look at some of the models they have to offer, and get an idea of where they may be going, and where they're at:
Snow. It appears every year. Of course, we don't see any of it here in Florida, but our Customers up north have to deal with it on a daily basis. It's not just the snow ... it's the slush, ice, and mud. That stuff gets every where on your Jeep you don't want it to. We know your Jeep's not a hanger queen. We know it will be out there battling the weather, and keeping you safe where others can't go.
And we have a few ideas to arm yourself on that battlefield of freezing driving ...
One of the more popular ways to lift a Jeep is with a body mount, or spacer lift, from Morris 4x4 Center. The body on your Jeep is mounted to the frame with mounts. Large round flat rubber bushings. Think of them as doughnuts, complete with the hole in the middle. The bushings cushion the body to the frame, and allow some flex, while minimizing the transmitting of suspension impacts to the driver.
Most of the stock bushings are probably around 1-inch thick. That also means the body of the Jeep rests the same distance up off the frame. There are mounts up and down the frame in several locations. Such as in the image below:

Over 40 Morris 4×4 Center employees will gather Friday, around 1:00 pm eastern time, at their Pompano Beach, Florida location. Then the ice cold showers will begin! Morris 4×4 Center will also be donating to ALS. This company is no stranger to getting involved; they are constantly donating to charities and organizations around the world. The company has built an orphanage in Haiti and started the Reach Haiti organization.

Here is a simple solution to your dome lights being on when the doors are off! Most forums and tech articles will explain to tap into the Jeep Wranglers electrical system and install a manual switch to turn the door lights on or off. Driving in the snow can be harsh on your engine. From the cooling system to your drivetrain, you will want everything in working order. With higher RPM, higher engine loads, and the occasional snow jammed in the radiator, your Jeep will have its work cut out for it.
With a closer look at the prototype, the wheel base seems to be extended and does not appear to be a Mopar pickup-bed kit. Jeep Liberty's and Jeep Grand Cherokee's built between January 9, 2001, and May 23, 2003 are being recalled for “Inadvertent deployment of the airbags”. While no crashes or injuries were reported, Chrysler filed documents with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration saying that supplier TRW Automotive had made a material change in the airbag module, and that the change was responsible for the deployments. Kemet supplies the sub-capacitors to TRW Automotive, which in turn supplies the airbag modules to Chrysler. Kemet said neither the precious metal nor the base metal electrodes were the cause of the trouble. TRW didn't say the parts were out of specification or make any warranty claims. The recall covers 2002-2004 Jeep SUVs. The material change took place in the middle of that timeframe. The number of recalled Jeep vehicles in the US totals 744,822, though when factoring global sales, that number swells to over 919,000.]]>

Chrysler has announced they will end incentives and punishment for dealerships that do not provide a high customer satisfaction rating. Chrysler has told their dealers for 20 + years that higher customer satisfaction will bring higher profits.
The company is continuing to train dealers. It seems their Reps are switching from enforcement to more of a relationship consulting role. Mystery shoppers are being switched from checklists sheets to “asking about feelings.” The Chrysler brands have placed almost dead last in studies that measure dealer satisfaction for many years. The new program was largely created by the Chrysler National Dealer Council, but leaves people wondering if this is a page out of a Fiat’s playbook.
